Dr. Buenviaje started his military career in 1986 at Great Lakes Illinois for Boot Camp training with the rank of E1. Immediately after graduating from boot camp, He was sent across the street In that same institution where he also successfully finished his Boiler Technician "A" School.
After a successful Boot Camp training and 'A" school, he then was sent to his first duty station to Bremerton Washington, onboard USS Camden (AOE-2) for 4 years. Camden tour has earned Dr. Buenviaje 3 West Pacific deployments and an advancement to BT3.
He then was transferred to USS Samuel Gompers (AD-37) in Alameda, California where he made the rank of BT2 , 2 West Pacific deployments and NEC 9545 Law Enforcement school from San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Buenviaje's third duty station was in Naval Station, Guam which is now a Naval Activities. It was here where he was able to use what he had learned as a Law Enforcement officer, working as Base Police.
After that exciting Guam tour, he then was transferred to Ship's Intermediate Maintenance Facility (SIMA) in San Diego California as Machinist Mate (MM). It was here where he switched rate from BT/MM to Religious Program Specialist (RP). Dr. Buenviaje was sent to Meridian Mississippi for "A" and "C" school to complete RP rating requirements and he graduated with honors.
Being an RP, the Navy sent Dr. Buenviaje to a very exciting tour in Jacksonville, North Carolina to be the Religious Programmer for the infamous First Battalion Eight Marines which he had the privilege of doing a Mediteranian Float. Dr. Buenviaje made the rank of RP1 while deployed and was also accepted to attend a seminary to become a Military Officer,... a Chaplain.

The Navy transferred Dr. Buenviaje to Wesley Biblical Seminary to complete the educational requirements for Chaplaincy. He was immediately promoted to the rank of Ensign and it was also while in the seminary where he was able to finish Officer's Orientation and Cold Weather Training both in Rhode Island,
His seventh tour and his tour as an active Naval Officer was in MAGTF Twenty Nine Palms California as a Battalion Chaplain for First Tank Battalion and Second Battalion Seventh Marines (2/7) consecutively. It was with 1st Tank BN where he was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG) and it was with 2/7 where Dr. Buenviaje was privileged to deploy to Iraq and a crusty promotion to full pledge Navy Lieutenant (LT).
Immediately upon returning from Iraq, Dr. Buenviaje was transferred to Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton in Camp Pendleton, California. It was in this institution where he received 2 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
After the hospital tour ended, Dr. Buenviaje was then transferred to USS Cape St. George (CG-37) docked at Naval Station San Diego in California. He was privilege to deploy and visited many ports.
To expedite Dr. Buenviaje's retirement, he was then was transferred to Naval Station San Diego Base Chapel to spend the last two years of his commission and Naval career. He retired on September 28, 2014 and enjoyed one year of sabbatical luxury before entering Prison Chaplaincy ministry.
